Hey ya'll... I'm one of the lucky dogs that got picked for this year's Dec 3-5 President's Island (excluding Ensley Unit) Buck Hunt.
I know there's no hookups, but can anybody who's camped out at the check station before, tell me if they'll allow a medium sized RV to park there in the field? There's 3 of us in our group, and we're considering pooling on a rented RV to stay in whilst we're there partaking in the festivities. We just don't know if TWRA will allow it. What did the camp look like last year? Enuff room?
Thanks!

With only 50 hunters on that hunt, I imagine there should be enough room. You might wait until we get a little closer before finalizing a RV, just in case the weather is going to be really crappy. -don't want to get a RV stuck in that field!
If you've never rented a RV before, its a crappy deal. They charge you a lot of money per day and your mileage is limited to something like a 100 or 200 mile per day and then you get charged 65 cents a mile or something stupid like that. I've looked into it before and couldn't believe how crappy the deals are on rental RVs. You might consider renting the RV somewhere closer to Memphis to save on mileage from Nashville.
Of course, it is the hunt of a lifetime, so going all out on a RV may be the way you want to go, BUT, for the money you are going to spend, you could rent a suite in the Peabody, go full out on luxury and take a cab to P.I. every morning.

If you end up in an RV, you might want to check into T.O. Fuller State Park as they have RV accessible camp sites. It is a stone's throw away from the island.

I live 5 miles away and I think this will be the shortest drive I've ever made to a hunting area. I think I'll be taking advantage of the comforts of home and the extra 45-60 minutes of sleep. Though, the direct route to P.I. does take me straight through the ghetto at 4:00 in the morning, which usually involves packs of feral dogs and crackheads knocking on your window at red lights.

Operators of larger and more complex vehicles will need to apply for a Commercial Driver License (CDL). These licenses include Class A, B, and C depending upon the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR), and what is being transported. In general, state law defines a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) as any vehicle or combination of vehicles weighing more than 26,000 pounds. If hazardous materials are transported, or if the vehicle is designed to transport more than fifteen (15) passengers including the driver, or if the vehicle is used as a school bus, a CDL would also be required, regardless of the weight of the vehicle. No, BW, you don't need a CDL for RVs.

We camped in a 28 foot RV right down from the TWRA camper. I think we had the biggest one there. You should have no problems.
