Enjoyed the read, PH. I've been tossing around the idea of printing up some stickers that read "Baiting is for Pu#*ies"

I feel like there is a undercurrent backlash building against "TV Hunting", which often involves a bait pile.

Will do. I'll remember to take my good cameras when I go back to check it - probably next weekend. I'd love to talk and pass along photos to someone with expertise in oaks. If you could put me in touch with someone, that would be great.

I definitely think there is a movement away from the TV-centric view that places way too much emphasis on killing a "trophy" (whatever that is) without regard to the process that was involved. That's why I started putting the stuff that I do on my site. I think that lots of hunters would enjoy themselves a lot more if they took the pressure to kill a B&C buck off themselves and focused more on woodsmanship and the pleasure that comes from putting in the time to really learn the craft of hunting. That isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea, but it works for me - and I've managed to kill a couple bucks that I consider trophys as a result.

Good article. The sad part is many don't care about nothing but the kill. They have no idea what they are missing. The harder one works to earn something the more it means to them.

My hope is that it's not so much that they don't care, but rather that they don't know any different. We've got a whole generation of hunters that had a TV set as a mentor.

Few people, hunters included, really realize how much benefit the human mind gets from working.....stimulating the mind often gives us a euphoric feeling similar to and rivaling most any other pleasure we can imagine....wasting our mind's potential , in my opinion, is simply wasting an opportunity to better ourselves....

I've said here many times, that if I get to where I lose my ability or desire to learn more about deer and hunting through scouting, then it will be time to move on to something else...

thanks
