Many years ago, at Cheatham WMA, I shot what I thought was a doe. When I rolled her over to field dress her, I noticed both male and female sex organs. No antlers, no pedicel and perfectly healthy.
I thought this odd enough I took her in intact. Sam said he had never seen one and tried to get hold of someone from the office to see if they wanted to examine her/him. He could never get an answer from anyone but since it was borderline cold, he said he would keep her overnight and give me another tag. I had no problem with that but noone ever came to get her/him.
Now here is my question:
Would this deer be likely to display male or female traits? Would the lack of antlers be a factor? I assume they would. Could it have bred? If so, pitching or catching? It was butterball fat, probably 110 pounds and we aged it at 2.5.

i hunted missouri about 12 years ago and saw a guy at the check station with one of them doe/bucks he said a spike was chasing it all around his stand and he finally got a shot at it.it was pretty big to about 115inch 8pt with all the velvet gone.

A hermaphrodite will generally display both male and female characteristics, but is usually unable to reproduce.
