I have a deer with him since Jan. He has not returned phone calls for about 2 weeks now. Has anyone had the same the experience? It might save me a two hour trip to his house.

It's not uncommon for a taxidermist to have a head for a year. Mine usually takes about that long and I never bother him. He always gets my head finished and it always looks great. Last thing I want to do is rush him to finish my head. I want him to take his time. But the not returning the phone call might make me concerned. Maybe he's on vacation.

He should have given you an ETC when you dropped the buck off. Like GH said not uncommon to wait more than a year.

I've still got one out from Dec. I never ask; I just get it when I get it. The one I took to him in Oct was ready by March.

Our Taxi is a good one so the later he receives one the longer the wait. He is pretty busy and turns away a lot cuase he just gets too many. Tried to turn me away several years ago the first time I brought one into him one Jan and I told him I didn't care when he got to it, so he said ok. Never pushed him since and always am pleased when I finally do get it.

I've had a few bad taxis in the past before him. Sometimes it is worth the wait. But I am sure he would return my call if I checked on it.

The not returning my call would worry me in you situation, not the wait.

He should return your calls.

However; if you do get in touch with him and he had a good reason, I would delete this post. This could hurt his business.

I will leave an update here. The work that he did for me previously was excellent. And I know from experience how long it takes to get a deer back.

Yeah its not very good business not to return phone calls. With my business its true that the earlier I get it most likely means the quicker you get it back. The later in the season it gets the further backed up I get and it just takes longer to get caught up.

I figure a deer is going to take a year, maybe a little more. I had a turkey fan with a taxidermist a few years ago that took 3 years! The guy had a reputation for slow, but man! A friend of mine says all taxidermists take an oath to never return anything on time, and to always make excuses. I've got two black bears that were supposed to be in my house in June... then July... and now October. (This taxidermist is in Wisconsin.) It happens. The anticipation makes it that much more fun to get the animals back!

By the way, does anyone know of a good taxidermist in the east Shelby County area or in Fayette County? Or even western Hardeman County? Thanks!
