Just thought some might be interested in the long-range winter forecasts. These are made by a guy who has an excellent track record of accurately forecasting winter weather patterns. First is his forecast for this coming winter:
http://www.accuweather.com/blogs/news/story/34891/winter-2011-heavier-snow-for-c.asp
This second article is really fascinating. He is looking at the potential for very cold and snowy winters in 2013, '14 and '15. He believes this period may be a repeat of the brutal winters we had in the late 70s. Make sure to watch the video at the bottom of the article. In it, he explains why he believes this pattern may occur. A real lesson in how REAL climate forecasting works.

Cool...looks like a pretty typical winter for us. Havent watched the real long term stuff yet but seems interesting. Just hope we dont have 70's in Nov. like last year.

Thanks for sharing that. Bastardi does a fine job of explaining his theory.

This second article is really fascinating. He is looking at the potential for very cold and snowy winters in 2013, '14 and '15. He believes this period may be a repeat of the brutal winters we had in the late 70s. I was a teenager in Chicago during the late 70s, and those winters were brutal. One year we had three blizzards; the next (or maybe the year before, I'm getting old) we went over two months without breaking freezing and several weeks without breaking zero.
I like winter, but I'll pass on those winters!

Laugh if you want but a guy here has been saying this winter is going to be brutal here. He bases it on wooly worms or hornet nests or something. He's been right for the last few years.

Considering the last major flood hit Nashville in the mid 70s and the late 70s saw one of the worst winter storms in Nashville history, I would say we are do a major winter storm event.
