Bow hunting.mainly the distance and amount of movement you have to do for the shot. I can say I am 10 times the hunter since I learned how to bow hunt then when I only hunted with a gun.

I'd say it would be more of a challenge for the most part, but here in Iowa the only season open during the rut is bow season and a lot of big bucks taken during that time.

Deer are definitely easier to pattern during bow season. They are more likely to be feeding on point sources (dominant trees) and they are more relaxed when leaves are still on the trees. Acutally making a killing shot is another matter. Much more difficult due to close proximity, required movement, more limited shot placment and angles, need for proper range estimation, and good marksmanship. On balance, I would say that bowhunting is more challenging. I agree with WRbowhunter that bowhunting will definitely improve your hunting skills.

I agree. While bow-hunting before gun seasons have opened, the lack of hunting pressure and pre-rut fall feeding patterns make seeing deer easier. High hunting pressure during firearms seasons drives deer into evasive behavior.
However, it is MUCH more challenging to kill deer with a bow than a gun.

However, it is MUCH more challenging to kill deer with a bow than a gun. EXACTLY! While bow season is definitely more low impact on the deer and its before they have been pressured greatly, but under equal circumstances its much more of a challenge with a bow vs a gun! Just look at the differences and the answer stands out!

I Bowhunt almost all season unless I want to kill a bunch of does at once.Bowhunting is tougher than gun hunting no matter what time of season but test your hunting skills by hunting in late december with a bow. Its tough to hide from or pattern deer.I hear alot of shots going off and that is a tough mental game for me. I am always thinking well they got him or is he dead.A mature deer is always tough but a gun puts alittle more in the hunters favor, but I shoot a Mathews Monster so I guess that makes me and most gun hunters equal. LOL The toughest part about killing a mature buck is getting him to move during daylight....

Bowhunting is definately more challenging in my opinion. That's why I practice it more. However, I feel more confident in the woods with my bowtech than my remington.
