I bought this recurve last year in the middle of the season. It is a Hoyt Gamemaster II with 60 lb limbs. Notice my new 1080p video camera mounted so I can show everyone my misses. I hope I dont miss but I welcome all the razzing and laughing at me if and when I do. I am excited about the challenge and I hope I can bring some funny entertainment to TNdeer.

I have one of those camera mounts, and I'm thinking about doing a lot of filming with it also this year. Good luck with that recurve. I have for the last 2 years wanted to buy a recurve but just haven't broken down yet.

Good for you. I started shooting a recurve 3 years ago. Just can not bring myself to hunt with it. Maybe if I can get one down early with the compound I will give it a try this year.My buddy tells me once you kill one with a traditional bow the Archery gods grant you all kind of superpowers. Good luck

I went back to a recurve about ten years ago and missed a oppertunity at a monster in illinois at 40 yards and flat missed a 145 at 25 yards, killed him with a rifle a little later. But I do love them and wish you good luck.

I'd rather see video of you bringing down one of those monsters like you have in the past, but know that if you post video of you missing one we will be laughing right along with you (or is that "laughing AT you.......?)

How does the camera affect you shooting the bow? I've always thought about mounting one on my compound but I kind of thought it would throw off the balance and possibly the follow thru

Might actually help with follow through because you have to hold the bow exactly where you shot or your camera will miss the action. But in reality I would think that with the vibration from the bow it would just be a roller coaster at the time of the shot.

well, with my old mini dv camera it would sometimes mess up the shot because of the violent shock of the compound bow, my thoughts are that this hard drive camera will do much better along with it being a recurve which has a much smoother release, also the mount that I use (cambow) is spring loaded and has shock absorbtion built-in, the camera is actually floating on a thin layer of teflon, or it may look terrible, as for it affecting my form? well Im not splitting arrows....im just tryin to hit somewhere in the vitals

I hope this doesn't mean there will be more wounded deer too.

from an ethical standpoint....if i cant hit a target consistantly then I guess I'll have to use the compound but Im feeling OK about it now but Im not ready, lets see if I can get some practice video

51,
Several years and MANY bow kills ago, I was contemplating switching to a recurve for a few hunts. Then I ran into a guy that had MUCH experience hunting with a stick bow. He told me how he had taken about a dozen deer that season with a recurve. When I asked how many he also wounded, he replied also, about a dozen.
THis guy was a RANKED recurve shooter in our area. He was EXCELLENT and practiced EVERY day...YEAR ROUND. Yet he still managed to wound SEVERAL each year.

If that is good for him then fine, whatever trips your trigger. But for me, ONE wounded deer is TOO many.

I can shoot a recurve fairly well in the back yard. From a stand is different when the target is live. I just don't possess the skills or the stomach to take the chance.

Good luck and I hope you don't miss, or wound!

51,

Just practice, i guarantee that bow is more than capable of killing deer. If you change your mind, let me know what you want for it....I need a new bowfishing bow.

Im with you on wounding deer, I've wounded or lost only 2 deer out of 50 or more Ive taken, it turns my stomach when I see people at Walmart the day before rifle season buying guns and scopes knowing they have no clue of what they are doing

I am nervous about it for sure but I want to take a shot at the challenge

Ok, the recurve is so much more sensitive to hand torque and my video looks like SH*&, everytime I shoot the camera jolts to the left....im sure my form is bad and using fingers doesnt help....Im going back to the drawing board on how to video my probable misses with ease
