My what an interesting and enlightening post,I never knew, and had other assumptions.
How long does the process take to get rid of the velvet,,We still have velvet bucks, at least up to a couple hours ago a couple of years ago i had a very big 8 point that i watched all summer long feed every day in my bean field. this deer was about a 150inch gross 8pt.every day i watched him through binos at a distance walk by my tree stand at 20 yards. i was pumped to say the least.then 1 morning about 2 or 3 weeks before the season opened right after daylight i saw the buck with a little spot of velvet hanging off his antler.that night i returned to the field and right at dark like clockwork the big buck came out but this time all the velvet was gone and his horns where bloody!! so in about 12 hours he had shed all his velvet. that was the last time i ever saw that deer he left after that and as far as i know no 1 killed that deer? so i think if any of u guys out there are not getting bucks on your cameras right now just wait a little longer once that velvets gone they will start moving around some.

Actual tree rubbing is a social communication behavior.

Actual tree rubbing is a social communication behavior. Exactly and usually doesnt occur until all the velvet is long gone!

Yup. You will see some rubbing behavior any time bucks are in hard antler, but rubbing activity usually peaks about 2-3 weeks before peak breeding.
