If rifle where open on Sept. 25th instead of bow it would be an absolute massacre. Hunting pressure is the great equilizer between the two. Bow is by far more challenging on equal playing fields.

Bow hunting IMO is the pinnacle of hunting mature whitetail bucks!

I can see both points of view and when you take in account all varibles such as unpressured deer in bow season and range of guns I would say it's about the same.

I think that I will chime in..... I hunt with every legal weapon except a crossbow. Early bow season is great for getting the rust off and medicating that deer hunting "jonesing" feeling. I love it.
However, the second that mz kicks in, I put the bow down. The biggest buck that I have ever seen, I would have taken with anything other than my bow. The angle that he came in and what I had to do to get an arrow off was absolutely horrific. That day and the sight of that buck walking off with my arrow sticking out of his back will never leave me. I distinctly remember thinking as the huge buck walked toward me...."WHY DO I HAVE THIS BOW IN MY HAND RIGHT NOW.."
Don't get me wrong, I love bow hunting and getting out there early. It gives me a chance , as I said before, to knock the rust off and get back to a deer hunter way of thinking. I have missed deer with a bow and I have missed deer with a gun and mz but if given a choice what to hunt with I would have to go with a rifle simply because where I hunt a rifle will get any deer that I see. All I have to do is put myself in the right spot. My weapon will not limit me in any way, like it can with a bow.
As far as deer going nocturnal, etc. It is my opinion that you can very easily send a mature deer into a nocturnal state during bow season, like you can later. Most times , during any part of the season, you may only get ONE shot at a mature deer. I'd rather take that ONE shot with my rifle...again, without limits.
Weighing all the factors in, bow hunting is much harder in my opinion.
