I know this is a TN sight (the state where my alligence still lies), but the majority of these observations are based on my past 3 years hunting primarily KY.

I honestly wonder is it not easier hunting with a bow? Over the past 3 years I have killed 80% of my deer with a bow. I sometimes have a hard time finding deer come gun season... in KY. We (bowhunters) get the whole pre rut and front end of the rut. Its hard to beat the second week in Nov. for bowhunting up here. Once the guns come out everything changes. You have to get back in the thick and the orange army pressures deer into being nearly nocturnal in a few days.

This hasn't been my experience in TN but the places I hunt are different and the pressure seems to be significantly less. KY gets pressure for about 9 days straight in lots of areas.

What say you? Can gun hunting be more of a challenge than bow?

I honestly don't see how gun hunting can be harder. You have to get them a lot closer with a bow. To me season times don't really factor in. A person may kill more of there deer with a bow because the season fall the right time. However, to me, a person would kill the same amount or more if gun was open the same time of year.

I have taken more with a bow than a rifle as well. It is true that there is so much more to pay attention to and so much more that can go wrong. Rifles take there advantage in distance I think. It's harder to get busted and your moving so much less. I think they both present equal challenges and it all comes down to being in the right place at the right time. Personally I hunt pastures and fields during rifle season that I couldn't hunt with a bow... But in the woods I almost always prefer a bow... Not much of a true answer to the question but that's my take

There is no doubt about it in my opinion. Now, the 1st 2 weeks of bow season, you can still catch some bucks that are still in their summer patterns, BUT that does not make it easier in any way. I would rather have a gun in my hand any day! I LOVE bow hunting, but I cant tell you how many older deer I could have killed if I had a gun in my hand rather than a bow. Once the guns start going off, the deer do go in hiding, but also at that time, the rut kicks in. No doubt in my mind that bow hunting is more challenging. Not only the whole movement and harder shooting category, but the range efficiency.....Just my opinion

I don't care what weapon you carry. The stalk is the most challanging to me.

Bow hunting to me is a heck of alot more challenging even though you may see more deer getting them into range and not spooking them is another thing .

Interesting. I understand that if I could have a gun in my hands at all times I'd have the opportunity to kill more deer. But seasons being as they are, and pressure being as it is, I feel bowhunters have a distinct advantage to hunting unpressured normal pattern deer. The rut during gun is an equilizer for pressure for a bit in a lot of areas the amount of pressure stops daytime rutting activity prematurely.
