Gas per trip, leases, mortgages, license, camo, tree stands, boots, clothing, ammo, arrows, weapons, trail cams, salt lick, food plots, tractor fuel, hunting vehicle, insurance, mud tires, chain saw, vaccum sealer, freezer space, and time. Whew, I figure that doe i got last year cost me about $400 a pound and i cut it up myself. Haha sure is fun though.

Once you have all your equipment it really does even out I'd say. I've spent 15 bucks on corn this year and that's it. My usual harvest is 6-8 deer per year. 15 for corn, 4 dollar arrows (always plan on losing 2), and 1.25 per round for the gun...

Not much for me. 5-6 deer per year, 5-6 bullets, little bit of gas, freezer electricty, new gear sometimes.

I'm not gonna pretend I don't spend a small fortune on hunting equipment. Between treestands, clothing, fuel, cameras, rifles/scopes, GPS units, etc. It all adds up but its only money well spent IMO.

I try to think of it as paying for a recreational opportunity. I pay for the enjoyment of being at the camp and walking in the woods. The venison is like the free continental breakfast at the hotel.

Sure you could do it cheap, but where is the fun in that. The new toys that come out every year are just as much fun as the hunting. My garage has more hunting crap than the average sporting good store, but that is what I like. Plus its safer if you have to have a team of sherpas to get all your stuff out to your hunting site, somebody always knows where you are if you get hurt.

too dang much. I do eat all the deer I kill, but for me it isn't about the meat. That is just a plus.

Over the years, a good part of my life. It cost me a lot of watching my kids grow up. It cost me hundreds of days away from home. It cost me gallons of sweat and miles of boot leather and more than one scar.
As for money, heck a lot. But I can replace that.

I figure every time I kill one the price per pound goes down since I reuse most of my gear. I also use some gear for recreation which can also deduct some off price.
Beside the quality time with family and friends in God's great outdoors is PRICELESS!!!!!

I envy you guys that can figure it down to only $475/lb. That wouldn't even get me to the woods.

A heck of a lot less than the $80K offshore boat sitting in my backyard and $400 worth of fuel each trip to go get 20-25lbs of filleted grouper and snapper. I'd go so far as to say I could hunt the rest of my life and not spend half that.

Somewhere there is a government study on that exact thing. I think it was govt. May have been NSSF.

Theres no way to put an accurate price on it IMO. Its a ongoing thing over a lifetime for many of us, and the meat at the end is just a bonus IMO! While I love and eat any deer that I dont give away. I would still hunt even if there wasnt meat at the end, its just a bonus!
