I have never decided one way or another for sure, but I plan all of my rut trips out of state to coincide with the days leading up to the full moon. It has worked out well for me over the years.

During the rut, nothing matters besides the weather. The moon's influence is too weak. Im a firm believer that cold weather has the greatest influence during the rut. However in pre-rut, a full moon has provided lots of buck sightings for me especially in the evening. Not necessarily right before dark either. Killed my best bow buck to date last year in the first of November on a full moon day. Watched him and his buddies for an hour before he finally strolled into range. Unfortunately for me, the "big boy" showed up at 35 yards while I was descending down my stand to retrieve the one I shot. Needless to say I never saw him again.
I believe the moon has the most influence during the pre-rut (September and October).
I prefer a New moon.

Weather is obviously the most important for daytime movement. That being said, if the weather is good and I had a choice, I would take the full moon, seems to create a lot of mid day movement!
