Nothing will take you out of a stand quicker than cold feet. Go with the 800 at least. I (like others) have a few pair. I have a non-insulated for early bow, 200 grams for 40+ degress, and 1,000 grams for the cold conditions. I hunt alot in December and have spent several mornings in a stand till it did not get up to 25degrees till after lunch.

I'd do 400... 800 gram and your feet are going to sweat like crazy from walking in and your gonna be frozen. 400 and some foot warmers will work for the whole season... Not just january

Completely disagree. As long as the boots are made from breathable materials (DON'T get leather boots--they don't breath), and wear the right type of moisture-wicking socks, you won't have a problem with sweating feet. For morings in the 20s and bellow, go with 800-1,200 gram thinsulate.

To each there own.. I just have tried so many different grams from hunting in indiana for years and the lighter boots have always worked for me. I don't have to have sweat wic socks when my feet aren't sweating

If you're planning on going in cold weather I'd go with the extra insulation. Get some good socks and some that will wick moisture away from your feet. Another thing I can't recommend enough is a good boot dryer (about $39 at BP). Walking around with heavily insulated boots will make your feet sweat. The wicking socks will draw moisture away from your feet but the inside of your boots will still be damp. After a day of hunting I throw them on the dryer overnight and by morning I put on a nice, completely dry pair of boots again.

Get a pair of cold weather Mucks and you don't have to worry how much grams of insulation your boots have.... I use to get boots with certain rating of grams of insulation until I bought a pair of Mucks. They are rated from 60 to -40 and my feed stay warm in the teens....

Everyone is different! Each hunter has a different opinion and advice. If your feet get cold then go with 800+...if they usually don't go with 400 or minus. The bottom line is that it gets plenty of cold enough in TN to have a higher insulated boot. If you hunt from Sept-January you are gonna be in 70 or 80 degree high temps all the way to 20's or teens for the high.
