I have tried several different attractants over the years and never really been impressed. Anyone have a different experience?

I placed a trail cam out for two weeks over a salt stump. I got NO PICS. I went back two weeks after that and had 83 pics...all of deer.

Sometimes deer attractants work best when placed in "better" places.......

randomly placed attractants never work as well, unless deer frequent the area anyway...

good luck

Very unimpressed with most commercial attractants. ANYTHING will work once in awhile, but how many deer are spooking that you don't know about?

Everybody likes a different style of hunting, but I'm not interested in bringing deer to me. The fun of hunting (to me) is figuring out the deer and going to them.

The only attractant I use is a sex attractant and then only limited use during the rut.I've seen positive and negative results but never killed a buck over 3.5 years old by doing so. Last year I called a buck in that I think was 5.5. He came up the edge of a cutover directly to me. I had a scent rag with doe-in-heat hanging about 15 yards away and the wind was blowing out into the cutover. The buck (a big pretty 7 pointer) came in upwind of the scent and walked to within 3 yards of the rag. When he got dead downwind he freaked and torn out back across the cutover. If he had of been downwind from the beginning he may or may not have followed the scent stream in. As it was it hit him full force from point blank range and startled him. Placement of the scent, a deer's location relative to that placement, and a deer's attitude (including whether he's been fooled in the past) all play a part. Overall, a hunter is probably best served by staying as scent free as possible, paying strict attention to details, and not using any type of attractant or cover scents. That's not to say they won't work....and when they do it's a thing of beauty. A last tip would be never to think that a use of any scent will cover up a hunter's sloppy approach or disregard to personal scent control.

I had a big boy come in to a buck bomb last year opening day archery. Walked right over to where is sprayed some on the ground, found the source of the scent and bugged out of there.

Most activity I've seen from attractants is at night... Seems like as much as they may enjoy it, they do know that it's foreign and a very cautious. I second the notion of staying as scent free as possible. Everytime the woods change... The deer change

Use to try some, but with little results. The only time I thought one did work was on a yearling buck. I think most attractants will peak the curiosity in some yearling deer and maybe an occasional mature deer. But I think they will spook many more mature animals than we would ever know.

I agree concerning human odor and the need to control it... it is what I am concerned about the most....man is it hard to keep from sweating during bow season.

Concerning attractants about the only thing I have used that works is creating salt likes. I have 3 that are several years old and they are visited alot. I was just curious to see if others had as simialr experience.

All of this will attract deer, I've used it all for trail cam purposes. We had great luck with buck jam.
