I am getting a buck on camera by his self that has just showed up. probably a 2.5 year old 8pt with all the velvet gone.this is the first buck i have gotten pics of all summer.once they shed that velvet alot of em move

I find it interesting that you said he just showed up. For whetever reason, I believe antler velvet shedding produces some sort of "trigger" that bucks use to time their seasonal range shift from summer patterns to fall patterns.

When I get new fall range-shifters on trail-cam for the first time, they always have just shed their velvet.

Same here BSK...almost always see "new bucks" literally right after they shed their velvet. Though, this year, I just got 2 new nice bucks on camera that I have never seen before and they still haven't shed their velvet. I'm trying to be optimistic, but am afraid they will leave anytime now (when they do shed). Actually, I haven't seen a buck yet that's shed their velvet.

Give some thought to the shedding of velvet cooinciding with the first drop of mast. That too will cause a range shift.

Went up to IL yesterday to scout some new land and every buck I saw was in velvet.
