TN has big bucks, I've seen them. I wouldn't feel as if I've done anything special by going out of state to kill a big buck though. Hunting a state like TN adds to the aura of hunting and that makes it a much better hunting situation IMO. I feel that anyone that would have to go elsewhere AND completely miss out on their own state's hunting season is somehow missing the reason behind hunting in general terms. It's your life and whatever makes you happy then I say go for it. It's not all about the buck or their racks IMHO and it never has been. I'll be happier than anything just sitting in my tree opening morning watching the sunrise and the woods come to life.
Also: How about a 232 7/8 Killed in TN with 37 scorable points.

That would seem to lessen the challenge imo. It's definitely a challenge to kill a mature, large antlered buck here in Tn, but not impossible by a long shot. It's just harder, thus more of a challenge, again, imo. Good luck with your decision. Btw, I've hunted for over 35 yrs and have only seen two bucks that would score in the 140 class, and only one of them is on my wall, and this is only on my small piece of property, only minimally managed by letting smaller bucks walk and providing a sanctuary area for them. They're out there, and when you do get a chance at one, it's a dream come true.

I'll leave my transplanted home state to hunt my home state. The deer in Florida are not alot to get excited about, although I may sit in a stand in January when the temps drop. The skeeters down here are like small birds. You need 4 Thermacells per tree. Likewise, my father in law farms 1900 acres of corn and soybeans in Iowa, so why shouldn't I take advantage of that?

First off, What size buck is it your looking for? If its a B&C good luck anywhere you go! If its a 130 then your fine right here at home. If you want a 150 I would recommend heading to the midwest for a legit shot at killing one in a single season. All depends what your looking for.

I have seriously considering abandoning hunting in tn for the possibility of saving for a hunt in another state. I have always hunted in tn and enjoyed ample numbers of doe kills, but I really never have seen a B&C size animal.
If your goal is a B&C-size buck, you should definitely consider hunting either one of the Midwestern states, such as Iowa, Illinois or northern Missouri, or possibly one of the Great Plains states, such as Kansas or Nebraska.

I would say just go ahead and hunt TN on your days off on some public land and spend your $ and vacation time on a hunt to the midwest. If I had to pick just one or the other I would most certainly head to another state to better my chances at a bigger racked deer. Also,B&C deer are hard to come by in any state but I will say that in some years I have seen as many as 4 on a given farm and have yet to kill any of them.

It saddens me to read posts like this.
I feel SO fortunate!, that just the sight of any deer, buck, doe, large or small, makes my heart pound as it does.
Whether the opportunity to take a deer presents itself or not, I love and cherish being in the woods, and am thankful for the many memories that I have to look back upon, and forward to.
Thank you GOD, for all you have provided!
Good luck on your quest for a B&C....

Good pot Rowdy. I agree. As much as going after the biggest and the best is a worthy endeavor, I've finally come to realize I want more out of my hunting experience than the size of the animal harvested. In essence, I don't want my view of a "successful season" to ride on whether I killed a buck of a certain size anymore. I just want to have fun.
Oh my gosh, I'm turning into Bowriter!!!
