I never did purchase a new pair of binos at the end of the season last year but I got a lot of good feedback from the folks on here about what to get. Well, now that hunting season is around the corner I'm back at trying to decide what I want. For whitetail hunting in the hardwoods, I'm very interested in the Pentax DCF SP 8x32 or the Kahles 8x32. I figured a 32mm objective should be fine and more compact for lugging around but I do like the the idea of gatherig more light with a 42 or 43mm objective. Of course there is the price and weight difference when you start going up in size. Help me decided folks!

I would go with the Kahles but you really need to go and compare side by side if possible. All binos eye cups are different therefore they feel different on different people some good some bad. If you get a pair that dont "fit" your eyes then it will become miserable after a while. I would also look at the zeiss, go to samplelist.com and swfa.com they both have great deals sometimes.

I would like to do a side by side but I don't know where a dealer is in chattanooga. I could probably find a pentax but not the kahles.

Kahles, hands down, is better glass. If you can afford get them. That being said, how the binoculars fit to you is important, they could even be Leicas, but if you are uncomfortable looking through them, a pair you are comfortable is probably more important to some extent. Kahles is one of the oldest optics manufacturer in the world.

Optically speaking, you cannot go wrong with either. It would be a matter of personal preference beyond that.

I have had a couple pairs of the pentax dcf sp models and they are AWESOME! MUCH better than the zeiss that i owned aswell! You cant go wrong with either, but i guarantee you that you will really like the pentax!

I would have to disagree with the comment that khales is better glass than the pentax.I have talked to MANY "professional" birdwatchers that say pentax is at the very top of the food chain.

Thanks for the information guys. I'm leaning toward the Pentax SP just because I've read nothing but great reviews and I've even read in some other forums that optically they were better than the Kahles.

I do not know about bird watching, I am hunting, and to me any brand of glass looks great in a store or during the day. The real test is in the first few minutes of legal shooting time or the last few minutes of legal shooting time or the dark cloudy days early or late and not just looking, but looking at animals close and long distance. I had a pair of pentax sp and the kahles are night and day better than the pentax early and late during legal shooting time when deciding whether or not you want to shoot an animal. I have kahles helia cl scope and absolutely no comparison between the pentax and the scope. All that said nothing wrong with the sp, but do some in depth research on how glass is handled once a company gets it, and the kahles coatings, mechanics, the warranty, etc. are hard to beat for the money and I am still using a pair of Pentax and wish I had gotten Kahles and I have a "jar in the backyard" that I am saving for a pair of leica's, hopefully sometime toward the end of the year. Don't look through leica's early and late in the day if you do not want to be depressed if you do not have a pair. Unbelievable.

One thing about kahles....they don't have stateside service anyomre, do they? That could make warranty issues a serious pain.
I have swaro el binos and they are remarkable. I had a warranty issue with a swaro scope and the customer service was awesome.
