Couldn't find a thread on this already so:
I am in the market for a new range finder and my only question is about ARC/ID technology. This is when the range finder does the math for a true distance when you are 30' up a tree or something. Does anyone actually find this a necessary feature, something that's just nice, or whatever. Thanks in advance.

Waste of money unless you are contemplating extremely long range rifle shots at very steep angles.

Use a regular rangefinder, get the true yardage, aim at the lower third of his body and let her fly! Leave the extra cost of the "arc" for those who like to scratch their heads worrying about the latest gimmicks!

I got the Chuck Adams Bushnell rangefinder for Xmas a couple of years ago. It has the arc technology. I've never had it show more than 2 yards difference (only used for short distances)and I was about 30' up in a tree and looking into a creek bottom that was probably another 10-20 ft below me.
Not worth it for hunting.

Now if you golf, it's priceless on one of those par 3's where the hole is 200' below the tee box!!

dig this.... i did a little test because i thought about buying an expensive rangefinder last season.

i took my cheapo bushnell yardage pro and set up a ladder stand at my buddies house. i believe the stand was 22" high. anyway, we set a deer target up at 20, then 30, then 40, then 50, and stopped at 60.

i ranged at the base up of the tree and from the stand and never had more 1 yard difference in readings. every arrow i shot was spot on.

to me, for bowhunting in the woods and food plots of TN, ARC rangefinders are a waste of money.

now if you were hunting out west in rediculously steep terrain and what have you, than i can see getting one. but if you're bowhunting here in TN, save your dough.
