got a cahnce to by a ten point for beans. but it scares me that everyone i know who have had one, ends up going back to a compound. whats up? do they not shoot good, loud, heavy? what is the deal? i have never shot one, but will buy anything if the price is right.

I just bought one and they are heavy, but they shoot good from what i have seen so far. I have split two arrows at 10 yds and shoot a three arrow group with the shafts touching at 20. I feel good at 30, but will not shoot past that.
If you have a tree stand with a rifle rest in front should be no problem.

Okay here we go..... I went to the crossbow because I thought it might give me an advantage.... I'm in good health so I can hunt with both... The crossbow has no advantage except helping eliminate movement... I can shoot my bow maybe better than a crossbow and at longer distance the bow is a better weapon with more penetration...JMO

My dad had one, i shot it a few times and its shoots great. He didnt like it because it was pain to cock and carry so he went back to a bow. Should be able to resale it though.

I shot one a friend had ,did not know much about them at the time ,and the string took the top of my thumb off I had to go to the emergency room and have it sewn back on . Still have little feeling in it. I am a bit afraid of them now. That was wild it really did not hurt ,but I looked at it and told my son to get Mom and go to the ER.The whole top of my thumb was laid over I must have let my left thumb hang loose, but they (the company ) should have had a guard to prevent this from happening,I know I am not the first to do this.I still hit the bulls eye after all that

Your not.... got in a hurry one evening after hunting and threw the target down real quick to unload the ole crossbow.... It was dark and must of left the ole thumb hanging ten... I didn't go to the hospital but it took along time to heel, not to count the blood under the nail.... FL boys don't got to the hospital for a little busted tumb...LOL

I never shot one. I have only handled one at Bass Pro. I'll never carry one of the heavy bulky things in the woods unless I become unable to use a compound.

they are heavy, cumbersome, LOUD and a real pain to carry through the woods. and a compound will outperform a crossbow.

Buddy of mine got one when he hurt his shoulder. Dang that thing was loud. I heard him shoot at a buck from 200 yards away. When his shoulder healed he went straight back to the compound. when they first became legal for archery I saw a ton of people at the WMA hunting with them. Now only 1 or 2.

All of the above, Loud, heavy, cumbersome to handle, hard to shoot 360 deg from a tree stand ,etc. I have never hunted with one myself, but my Dad had one for a short time before he decided he liked a real bow much much better! I guess its all in what you like!

I started with a compound but never really liked. I had the wrong equipment to match my ability. Should have went to a pro shop and got outfitted. But ended up selling the compound. I bought a cross bow when they became legal. My compound shot faster. I bought a horton 150. The main advantage for me is not having to stand up to shoot. But like others have said its really hard carry very uncomfortable in a tree. If you hang it up on a hook in your tree stand this helps alot. But if a deer gets in on you without notice, very hard to pick this giant thing up without spooking game. Also they are not guns, 30 yds is the max with my x bow.

Before I ever got into archery,I decided I wanted to go with a crossbow..So I went to Bass Pro and got one,got it home and I couldn't get that thing to shoot for crap...So I sold it,and bought me a Compound, and I had never shot a compound up until that day..I've never looked back. Only way i'll ever go back to a crossbow is when Im physically unable to draw my compound back.

i've shot a crossbow but never hunted with it. for me its a rush to have a deer in bowrange and to draw without being busted. hunting with a compound to me is just more challenging which is why i rarely gun hunt. i usually bowhunt during muzzleloader and gun. it's just more fulfilling to me. i'd rather shoot a doe with a bow at 25 yards than a big buck at 200 yards with a gun.if times get tough and i just need meat or someone asks me to kill them one for meat than i may take my rifle but other than that the only reason i own a hunting rifle is for when i take my girlfriend hunting. but i just bought her a Mathews so....
to each their own, if it's legal go for it. when i'm old old and can't draw 50 lbs. back i'm sure i'll be toting a crossbow in the woods!

That depends on who is shooting it!
But I do agree that a good compound bow in skilled hands is a more accurate and longer range weapon than a crossbow.

I will hunt with both this year. Just thought it would be cool to do both and compare.

Nothing but a compound for me,as long as I'm able.Several friends of mine got those excalibers when they first legalized them.I was shooting with a friend and told him "man, that thing is loud" he replied "Yea,a 30-06 is pretty loud too!! ;)To each his own.

I have hunted with both but use the crossbow now and believe it is a great advantage not having to draw. Since I don't use a climber anymore I need the advantage. I was getting where I wasn't climbing as high as I need to...old age creeping in I guess!

I hunt with a crossbow. It is an Excaliur shooting 350fps. It is big, heavy, and loud, but i havent had anything beat it within 40 yards. Have stopped several dead in their tracks. Not having to draw keeps any movement to a minimum.

I got a horton compound crossbow when they first legalized them, for the "edge" I thought I was gaining.I have used it for a couple years now. I must say the biggest advantage from it i have found for me other than less movement is simply the ability to hunt from ground blinds/box blinds effortlessly. I also shoot a hoyt magnatec the majority of the time now just because i enjoy it.. but if this bow season i need to hunt a ground blind to get to smokeyghostmossyhorns well, guess it will be the horton for me....
