That sucks man! Good luck. I think the ones who offered him double to cut you out are just as sorry as the landowner.

I know the feeling man. Just gotta suck it up and find another spot. I wonder if folks would lay off leases for a couple of years, I mean start a website or whatever it takes and maybe that would lower some lease prices. I know, it's late and I'm talking jibberish, lol. I have never, and will never pay cash to hunt any property. Too many landowners out there who don't charge for hunting. It just takes homework, but I guess if you got money to blow on a lease then this post is worthless. Good luck to you and I hope you find a good place.

What all mount down 2 we were paying 300.00 a year to the real nice old man that owned it and last year he died and we leased it one more time from the son he never asked for any more money or i would have paid it.The old man we use to help him around his place bring him deer meat and just go up and talk to him through the summer. the son was just money hungry. And we had no contract it was always verbal be back the next year and pay him on the opening day of squirrel season. thanks guys

Please don't take this wrong, but you insulted the landowner when you told him you would have given him $1000.You was paying a third of what it was worth, was you taking advantage of the situation? $300 probably didn't cover taxes, why wouln'd he take it.Somebody double your pay, even if you work there 10 years, wouldn't you take the job.Could you not have giving a little more during the course of the 10 years?
I don't know how much the taxes were but it was only 40 acres.

Yes that is definitely sorry of the land owner to not at least contact you and give you the chance to match or do better. That almost happened to me on my best land due to a miscommunication but luckily I solved the problem before the land was gone to someone else. Really sorry to hear that for you. Best of luck finding some new land.
Ditto ! Hope you find a place soon .

Why? Desired commodities go to the highest bidder. That's the American way.
