I have come across the best thing to field dress deer
I use a scalpel ,Yes a scalpel that a doctor uses to do heart surgery with.
I have 2 and you can change blades in them if you think they are dull.
Do not ask where I got them ." hint a company around here makes medical supplies."
Back to the scalpel you can do precision work with this thing ,core around the anus and get up in the cavity to cut some things loose .But I have to be careful they are sharp
What do you guys use?
I have been seeing the tee handle thing .
If you are going to eat your kill, and I hope everybody does field dressing is very important to the quality of your meat
So take the time and do it right.
I cannot stand to watch other hunters gut a deer ,I said gut because that's all they are doing Getting feces and urine on every part of meat.which taints the meat, giving it that so called wild taste.

personally i don't think it takes surgical skill to "gut" a deer. so what if a little urine or feces gets on the meat. rinse it off, no big deal.

I use a Old Timer Sharp Finger.
I take special care not to get feces and urine on all of or any of the meat!
I have seen other guy's just gut and throw the innards without care!
I try to elevate the deer's upper body so that the innards flow towards the rear end of the animal as I Field Dress. I prefer to field dress on a slope or hill.
I have also used the Butt out tool, with varied results.
If you find and field dress the animal while it is still fairly warm this tool works great.
If you have to track for any length of time and it is cold out and the animal has time to cool down from the kill this tool doesn't work so well. at least in my experiences!

I've used a case pocket knife before, but know I do have a folding blade gerber that I use. Doesn't take much, just make sure the blade is sharp. I do take care not to get feces or urine on the meat while dressing.

Hang them up. You can do a much cleaner job.

I don't even gut them anymore. Hang, skin, fillet off the meat and debone at the same time. All I leave in the woods is Guts, hide, and bone.

I use the same uncle henry knife my papaw gave me for Christmas when I was 14 years old. It's mostly for sentiment, but still has been through 150 or so deer and a pile of turkeys.

I do use a scapel when caping out the head/ turning the ears on something I will mount and it's going to be a while to the taxidermist

x3... i will also be one that thinks the Butt Out is the best ten bucks i have ever spent.

i use the Butt Out and tie the anus off and hang them by the neck. i rarely spill and urine or fecal matter but if i do i rinse them out, throw salt on the affected area which draws any moisture out, and rinse it off.
