Before the rut. Food, Water and Cover. Did I miss anything? Food before, during and after the rut. They gotta eat.
The problem with that is when there are acorns absolutely everywhere, the deer can feed everywhere.

Yes, exactly and even during the rut, movement is somewhat restricted because the bucks don't have to travel as much to find the family groups of does.

Bowhunting will be tough for sure. One postitive for me is when these heavy mast/browse years occur, the late December hunting is phenomenal. Less hunting pressure and an east tennesse rut of some kind. Second, first, one and only rut???? Who knows?? See bucks during this time of year that I have never seen in daylight.

Lots of acorns usually works to my advantage.
Lots of acorns draws more deer to my hardwood ridge-and-hollers (from nearby bottomlands), but they sure don't move much once they get here!

Just get a little hang-time.... one will walk by.... If not enjoy the great outdoors....

I have learned in the last few years that early in the year to be real mobile. If you are not seeing them move to a different area. 75 yards makes a difference.
