Won't shoot with a bow while it's raining since it will wash away blood trail.
A bow kill in the rain has to be a double lung hit, and then should be no more than 20 yards, preferably 15 yards. Risking more than that is unethical in my opinion. Of course, the rain can afford you an opportunity to get within 15 yards that you may not get on a fair weather day.
My experience with pressured deer is that they are well aware that rain keeps the pressure out of the woods.
On second thought, maybe I should retract my previous statement... deer, even pressured ones definitely do not move during the rain, especially on public lands... under no circumstances... definitely not.. stay home drinking coffee, you're wasting your time.... nothing to see here, please move along

If it's a heavy rain I'll wait it out in the truck. The minute it lets up a little, I'm in the stand. If there's ANY thunder or lightening I pack it in for the day. A little bit of light rain or snow works well in the hunters favor. Three years ago the snow started coming down while I was up in my stand and it covered everything in a beautiful white blanket. I had a big 6 point come walking through my set-up, but the scene was so perfect that I just let him pass. I'm glad I did. That's one of those memories that will last a lifetime. An hour later the snow melted and I didn't see anything else that day. Those times are why I hunt...not always for the kill. It's one of those things that no one but other hunters really understand.

Like to hunt dominant trees right after it stops raining. The deer seem to want to feed heavy right after a front blows out.
BTW, the dominant tree philosophy seems like a really sound approach for post rain hunting. I'll be keeping that in mind.

BTW, the dominant tree philosophy seems like a really sound approach for post rain hunting. I'll be keeping that in mind. Remember how hard it rained opening morning of bow last year? I had a dominant white oak picked out to hunt. I mis-timed the departure of the front and got to the dominant tree about 15 minutes after the rain stopped. I ran off a nice buck that was feeding there when I walked in at about 10:00. Ended up hunting that spot anyway and had about six or eight does and small bucks come in just minutes after I got settled. They fed around for about fifteen minutes. Learned my lesson about getting there before the rain ends. Doh!
