Yep, it is about the rut. Most hunters do more damage than good when hunting mature deer with a bow.
I have to agree even though I primarily bow hunt I am a stickler about waiting until the time is right for my best spots. I have to hide my public land spots from buddies because they will be in there the first time the mercury dips into the 50's in the am...I wait until the last few day of Oct. and only then if we get a cold front moving through...
As far as the food, I am lucky and have a few weeks with them on the ragweed and clover fields up here before acorns really come into play. Hoping to capitalize early. I have seen all deer, seemingly disapear around the first of Oct. in good mass years.

Before the rut. Food, Water and Cover. Did I miss anything?

BW....i may not have that problem. I was told they were going to "thin"every one of our hardwood hollows and after some of our guys looked at them the correct term was "clear cut"....so by the time season arrives the acorns will probably be eaten that fall from the tops creating a very different feeding situation. I am going to pay close attention to this season in regards to feeding patterns because of it.

Saturday while squirrel hunting I ran into deer all over the oaks. Little groups feeding all over. My cameras as well are showing good travel to and from all feeding areas. It seems that they are REALLY wandering this year. Anyone else see this?

Does anyone think there is going to be more mast this year than last year? There was a lot last year and a lot of people said the hunting would be hard, but I saw plenty of deer. I just stayed off the food plots and near the oaks that were next to thickets.

Good mast or no mast is not an issue imo. We will see plenty of deer regardless.

it's great to hear you are out and about.
Ditto.
I Always have trouble when there is an abundance of mast. Critters don't move unless they are disturbed from my experience.
