I hunted in Reno County back in 2003 which is just west of Wichita, its not unit 9 but I thought it might let you know what kind of deer are possible in the area. I shot this 11 point which gross scores 175 5/8 and netted 164 2/8.

Great buck! Costs way to much to apply in Kansas for the hope of getting drawn...

What is the cost to apply? And do you get any money back if you don't get drawn?

I think its like 350. Yes you get your money back with the exception of like 20 bucks. You get pref points toward next year if you dont get drawn.

It was $322 last year. You also have to buy a license if you get drawn which i think was $75. I have never not been drawn for archery in KS. The only thing at this point is you are past the application date, so make sure tags are available before you get to far into this.

Hunted out there last year in unit 12. One of the best experiences of my hunting life. Saw one big one got killed on second day of rifle. He was possibly in the 170s gross. Another was killed last day and it was a solid 140 deer. Only buck I saw was a 6pt and he got a free pass. Well did see one on last day of season after dark and headed back to camp that was the BIGGEST freakin live wild deer I've ever laid eyes on. Wide, tall and massive. And tines, lots of tines. We stopped and watched him for about 6 seconds and he turned and went back into the cedars. If you made me guess I would say 180 plus...he was at least as big as the one chaser put the pic of on here.
