Sounds like a good plan. Many bucks will still be in their summer routines during the first couple weeks of bow season. After that I'd back out and wait til later in the season to try again.

You know a mature buck is using the area you hunt. I would hunt him opening week and if I didn't get him , I would stay out of there until NOV. I believe I only hurt my chances if I stay after him, unless the property is large enough that I can hunt the perimeters.
If you know where he is now, you may as well go after him. Other wise he's gonna change his pattern. No brainer.

IMO, unless you know his routine and can basically set a clock by him, I'd wait until I can reach out and touch him.....the main reason being is that without knowing for sure where he is and what he is doing on a daily routine, you risk busting him out of there...aka tipping your hand....
tip him too soon and you may never see him again.....
Bow hunting is great and lots of fun, but you have limited shooting range.....unless you can find exactly where to set up and get a 20-30 yard shot, then maybe it's best to wait until there is no limit other than the thickness of the cover...
If he takes a different trail while you are there with a bow, you may indeed see him, but he may be out of good bow range and he may pick you up and decide to change his pattern.....
good luck

Yep, "a man's got to know his limitations", and I certainly know mine when it comes to bowhunting.

Yep, "a man's got to know his limitations", and I certainly know mine when it comes to bowhunting. My limitation with an arrow is: If I can't run him through with an arrow that's in my hand, he's too far away! Give me a MZ or gun any day!
Mine is not much more than that either!

Mature bucks move most in daylight (during hunting season) at two different times--the first week or two of bow season and the week before peak breeding. and that's why i won't miss the first few weeks of bow season

Definitely the top time to kill a mature buck with a bow. They are still on fairly predictable summer feeding patterns. The peak in daylight mature buck movement just prior to peak breeding is a bit more iffy. You can see them, but they aren't on predictable travel routes, making bow-range shots a bit more difficult to set up.
And that's the reason I want a firearm in my hands during that pre-peak-breeding period. I want to be able to make the shot whether the buck is 20 yards away or 50 yards.

I think it would depend a lot on the property. How large it is and if other people were hunting it. Maybe its why I have only killed a few large bucks with the bow but I could not imagine waiting a month to hunt a buck when I have a good idea where he is today and that other people were in the woods hunting while I sat at the house. no way no how.
