...I could not imagine waiting a month to hunt a buck when I have a good idea where he is today and that other people were in the woods hunting while I sat at the house.
Good point.

Your first 2 to 3 weeks of the season is some of the best time to get a mature buck. They have not had any pressure since Jan. If you got them on a pattern. It helps with being sucessful in the early season. You other best time is getting in the rut. And if it's hot like it was last season you might not get him. Good luck brother

Mature bucks move most in daylight (during hunting season) at two different times--the first week or two of bow season and the week before peak breeding. and that's why i won't miss the first few weeks of bow season Definitely the top time to kill a mature buck with a bow. They are still on fairly predictable summer feeding patterns. The peak in daylight mature buck movement just prior to peak breeding is a bit more iffy. You can see them, but they aren't on predictable travel routes, making bow-range shots a bit more difficult to set up. And that's the reason I want a firearm in my hands during that pre-peak-breeding period. I want to be able to make the shot whether the buck is 20 yards away or 50 yards. i bow hunt but as soon as i can i will put it down in a heartbeat and pick up a gun

You know a mature buck is using the area you hunt. I would hunt him opening week and if I didn't get him , I would stay out of there until NOV. I believe I only hurt my chances if I stay after him, unless the property is large enough that I can hunt the perimeters. I had a big buck a few years ago that I was scared to hunt . I was afraid of bumping him out. I hunted the areas with perfect wind just outside where he hung out and i never got him with my bow and saw him 10 times. I suceeded in not bumping him and killed him with a Muzzelloader. This deer was 5 and a half and scored 150 plus as a 8 point. He was a smart one and kicked my but until I brought out the TC

Agree with bowbender.Summer pattern for mature buck gives you the edge. The 1st week is best chance for bowhunter after that November hands down.My mature buck kills pick up when I quit bowhunting, almost 90%.

Persistence is your greatest asset to hunting mature bucks. If you bowhunt older deer you'll see that. Sure hunt smart, play the wind, but if he's there and its open, its a squandered opportunity if you dont imo. Besides who wants to hunt deer with a firearm anyways, boooooring. he he he. jk
