Its all about marketing! My dad is retired and still kills deer with his old work uniform jacket and blue jeans. No Scent Lok no camo, and no tree stand. And he has never used a scope on his rifle. The exposure that the hunting industry has experienced is incredible. I'm just as guilty as the next guy. I have to buy new stuff every year, and its just like the stuff I already have! \:\)

I see both sides. Yes, parts of hunting--especially the gadget industry--are completely out of hand. On the flip side, thank goodness for the hunting industry and many of the advancements that have made hunting more fun and enjoyable, especially the clothing and treestand industry. Thank goodness the days of sitting on 2x4s nailed to a tree and wearing clothing that allowed you to drop into the 2nd and even 3rd stage of hypothermia are over!

Sounds oh so falimiar....great perspective! Like you said, I remember the "good ole days", but good Lord was I cold! Don't know how I didn't end up in the hospital with pneumonia or BSK's hypothermia.

Back when I first started hunting in the late '70s and early '80s, we would regularly drop so far into hypothermia that we thought being so cold you couldn't speak clearly (lost ability to control facial muscles) was just part of hunting. Now, with all the advancements in clothing technology, if I shiver even once, I know I didn't put on enough of the right layers. Now, with temps far below freezing, I can be so comfortable I almost fall asleep. In the old days, I would be shivering so violently I would nearly fall out of the tree!
