It says illegal for a person to possess or use, I don't see much room for interpretation there.

DWM,
I've seen clarification from the Montana Game Department, and they said trail-cameras are illegal to use period.

Dumbest law ever!!!!!!!!!
I have never had a camera help me kill a deer. ALOT of useful info, but not to help me kill a specific deer!

Trail-cameras help me monitor the condition, size and make-up of my local deer herd as well as help me monitor the seasonal range-shift patterns of individual bucks. They also probably teach me things about deer behavior that make me a more successful hunter, but I can't think of a single instance where they have helped me kill a specific buck. I'm just as likely to encounter any of the bucks I've photographed at end end of my property as the other, and at one stand location as another.
Now if a hunter has the option of several different properties to hunt, I can definitely see where trail-cameras could provide an advantage. They could indicate which property has the largest bucks.

BSK,I hunt 5 well manage properties, all under 100 acreas.I run cameras on all of them. When the rut gets closer,I start getting pictures of the bucks that I got earlier in the year(right now).Once they show up I start hunting doe groups, usually I got 5 days to seal the deal. And I got pics before I shoot them. And yes I get a range shifter that I never seen before.
