I saw a buck mount the other day that had velvet on its antlers and was curious is to how they preserve the velvet?

they inject some special some in there antlers to preserve them.

In school they always told us that there was no way to really preserve the velvet. The only way Ive found to so called preserve it is to clean as best as you can and spray a liguid tanning solution. You need to saturate it pretty good for it to soak in.

could you spray them with some form of sealer...similar to wood or concrete sealer.....just thinking??

Before it became illegal, the veins in the base of the velvet were injected with formaldehyde. I don't know how it is done now.

Put them in the freezer for a few months and they become freezedried as well.

I was not aware it was illegal, I preserve alot of animals with formalin (10% formaldehyde solution)
