I was picking in the garden this evening and the breeze rattled one of the dry corn leaves against the stalk, sounded just like one.

I'd rather run across a rattler than a copperhead, at least you oftentimes get a warning with them.

Honestly I have no fear of snakes. I respect them and their territory but it is not like we got Black Mambas in TN. Now spiders freak me out.

If you handle poisonus snakes you WILL eventually get bit, if
you keep doing it. You might not die, but you might wish you had.
Snake bites are not pretty. The damage to extremeties on the

i walked within in 10 yds of him twice and he never rattled..

The other person i was with bout stepped on him and he finally rattled, i was probably 60ish yds away and heard it and knew exactly what it was.

Ive caught snakes before that never even rattled until i had em in my hands tho.

just glad nobody got bit. we were easily a mile from the road. we snapped a few pics of him and sent him on his way...

I run into more copperheads hunting LBL than anywhere else I hunt.now I see there's some big rattlers. I'll wear my snake proof gaiters, want to hunt deer not snakes.

Oh, that's a BABY....I just read about a rattler that was killed about 3 weeks ago in Batesville AR. This snake was killed around a chicken house, the farmer noticed his was losing several chicken a week, with no evidence of the dead birds. One morning he goes into his chicken house and heard a very load, but strangely familar noise coming from the back of the house, he proceeds to investigate and as he gets closer to the end of the house he spots it.

A Rattle snake in the chicken pen, he proceeds to run back to his house to get a shotgun to take care of the pest, good thing he grabbed a shotgun instead of a rifle.

He returns to the chicken house and as he approaches the back of the house he hears the load noise again. He takes some feed to throw to the chicken to, in order to get them out of the way so he can take a shoot. He throws the feed, the chickens scatter and to he disbelief this snake is a little bigger than he thought.

One shot and he kills the extremely LARGE rattle snake. This snake was a unbeleiveable 14 feet 8 inch, had 11 rattles and two buttons on the end. This rattler weighted a whooping 105 lbs.

THIS THING WAS STILL GROWING!!!

He called the location Game and Fish, the officer said that it was the largest rattler he had ever seen. They have since contacted Genis, as they beleive this snake to be the new worlds record Diamondback Rattlesnake.

Picture to COME!! ......... HOLY CRAP!!!!!

I defied the laws of gravity once too! Stepping over a log, I spotted one coiled up just in time. Right where I was about to plant my foot!

The next second I was 8 feet past him down the creek bank! I couldn't have put that foot down to jump 'cause it would have been right in the middle of the coil. To this day, I HONESTLY think I just "floated"! \:D

Ok, SpursNFeathers is this what you saw on the SiFi channel? I don't think so. Ye of little faith!!

I say again "HOLY CRAP", this thing could eat a small child for a snack.

What do you think of this big boy?

THe pic above is supposedly from rutherford couty out in christiana. IF someone says it is from elsewhere, I would say the pic is BS, like most of the other pics like this that are passed out through the internet.

Also, if you see a snake it's not recommended to try to kiss it - it's not sticking its tongue out to entice you... \:D \:D

Pretty snake. I would have let him crawl away also. He's not bothering me and after looking at him I'd return the favor.

A side note on copperheads (and this has been my observation and not necessarily a scientific fact)..... during the Fall when you spot a copperhead keep looking around you. I don't know how many times when I've spotted one I'd also find another close by. They seem to migrate in pairs.
