Well bow season is right around the corner and i figured i would ask this to see what new gear everyone plans to take afield this season.
Me, I'm going to Ohio for a rut bowhunt and planning on switching to a fixed blade broadhead. looks like i'm gonna try slick tricks.
And i have new 7mm.08 topped with a Vortex scope. first time playing with a Vortex scope but they're binos are amazing!
So lets hear about all the cool new crap that our wives / girlfriends don't know we bought!

I switched to a String Splitter for more light and viewing area. My groups aren't quite as tight as with a conventional peep sight, but .5 inch shouldn't make a difference on a well placed shot.
Otherwise, nothing new, though I've been eyeballing one of those new IQ Bow Sights.

Nothing much for me, but im having fun getting my 12 yr old set up to hunt his first year with a real Bow. Just ordered him new Broadheads and I've been working on his bow. I got him a new quiver mounted over the weekend, and we set him another pin on his sights. He is super fired up and shooting most everyday, sometimes 2 or 3 times a day! You gotta love that!!

Poser, I put a string splitter on my bow a couple years ago and man the difference at low light. My accuracy suffered very little. I think you'll like it especially in hunting situations.

I found the new "Plotwatcher" camera to be the best thing going this year. Been using one for about 2 months now. Its an incredible new tool for scouting ENTIRE food plot or you can set it up in woods over trail intersections or open areas inside the woods. Its a time lapse camera that will record from dawn to dusk. There are different settings for picture taken. i.e. 5 seconds or 10 seconds or you can set it to custom settings. It has program that will let you zip thru the video/pictures. I can watch 5-7 days worth in about 5-10 minutes. HD pictures (very clear). Plan on buying a few more before season starts to help cover several different hunting properties.
How much are they?

Plan on buying a few more before season starts to help cover several different hunting properties. How much are they? $199.99. Not as much as high dollar trail cams but still a pretty penny. Picture quality is great and have had no problems with it thus far. One note to consider is using rechargeable batteries. It uses 4 AA and depending on the amount of time/delay you have it set on it can go through batteries in a week. This is not a camera you leave out all season. I'm going to use it for 2-4 day surveillance in particular areas as the deer behavior changes. However I am running the one I have constantly as a test run on the product. I have had many trail cams stop working after 2-3 months. i.e. Cuddie back, moultrie, bushnell and so far this one has been trouble free as well as expose some turkeys that have move onto my land. Wow, I'm trying out my new PSE Brute, cx arrows, muzzy 100s, whisker, F-18 Top Gun, Summit Titan and Big Dog ladder stand, new boots, MOBU Infinity, fresh clover, turnips, new CVA Optima, 30 not-hunted-in-almost-100-years acres and a new WGN Halo rangefinder. I'm waiting on the papers any day now. Just so long as my court date is post-rut. I'm holding out on the ATV though. A man has to have restraint.

All the people that bow hunt should really look into a Thermacell.(if you don't have one already) It's the bee's knee's when it comes to keeping the mosquitos off of you. I've had deer under me with it running.

And the new Uway NT-series trail-cameras. Right now I'm playing with their new NT50B black-flash unit.

My Remington 700 7mag and Nikon Buckmasters scope I got for Christmas last year.
And some type of windproof facemask for the cold wind.

Well if it aint broke dont fix it. It has taken me years to get all my equipment to suit me and i am there. I may try some of those hot mocs if it gets cold enough.

You know what's almost depressing muddyboots? Going through the Cabela's catalog and realizing there's nothing in it you absolutely have to have!

I'm the same way BSK! The only thing that I can think of I "really" need are batteries for my surefire.

Might get a new knife. Believe it or not, I have used the same knife to field dress my deer for about 30 years now. Believe it or not (again), the knife is a Rapala fish fillet knife.
I like the long reach of that kind of knife and how you can almost surgically remove the blatter and other parts using the small tip of the knife. If this knife is sharp enough, you can even split the breast bone using the fat part near the handle.
I guess I might shop for another one.

I got a little something new for this season but it isn't anything a man would have a need for.

Yep. I look through the catalog and think although I don't really NEED this item...it would be really cool to have.

My son is now shooting the 75 grn 2 blade Steelforce sabertooth broadheads, and they fly like a dart and hit exactly where his field points do. I was impressed with how easily they tuned on his arrows! If they perform well on deer I will be extremely happy with them. They appear to be fairly sharp right out of the box as well. I was concerned about enough penetration, as he is only pulling about 39 lbs, so I went with the 2 blade cut on contact heads. They penetrate great on a broadhead target so hopefully he wont have a problem. With any luck we will see!
