It will be right this year. There will be dark nights and alot of chasing during daylight hours. I can hardly sleep and it's only September!!!!

Everything depends on the weather. If we can get some cool temps...

BSK,

i know you said your weather models are calling for normal temps or higher, but someone brought up a good point yesterday. The native americans as well as some of our earlier generations used to watch nature for signs and if squirrels are gathering acorns early they said that could be a sign of a cold harsh winter. I saw on here folks saying squirrels were already cutting certain types of acorns. Do you think that this may be a sign of colder days to come?

I don't put much faith in the old methods of determining what the winter will be. Close analyses of these methods show they are wrong just as often as they are right.

Although computer models still have a long way to go, some of the "seasonal" models are getting pretty good. For this year, the winter models (January through March) show North America being above average temperature-wise while the rest of the planet is well below average.

As for November and December, I'm sure we will see swings back and forth above and below average. I just hope we get lucky and have an extended period below average for the first two weeks of November!

Exactly...means nothing if temps are similar to last year. It stil makes me want to puke thinking about waking up to 50 degree temperatures last season.

All I know is that I will be checking fat content on early kills in the areas I Rut hunt. I will also be looking closely at mast production and HOPING for cooler temps. As much for ME as for movement.

We hit highs of 84 degrees last year during MZ season. Not much daylight rutting activity in that heat.

So will I, but I would prefer they be productive days instead of sweaty days like last year. I remember walking to a stand one afternoon last MZ season wearing just a thin cotton T-shirt, and sweating like crazy.

I hate that...

Yup! I agree BSK. During those days in yhe 80's, I am a morning hunter. If there is any daylight activity to be seen, you will see it in thr mornings. I have seen bucks doggin does with temps in the 60's, on early mornings of 85 degree days.
