Oh the old newspaper pictures! Back in the 70's and early 80's those pics sold alot of papers in Columbia.
Another "good ole days" topic. My bow buck in 1970 made me a local celebrity for several months.....ha, ha, ha. By the way, he was only a six pointer.....ha again!

Great Pics from all. I didn't start hunting until the early 90's, but sadly I do not know what happened to all the pics i had of deer that we shot back then. Of course there weren't that many to keep up with

You wouldn't win money from me! The hunting is MUCH better and more fun now.
But then I've backed way off on how serious I take the management and the hunting.

To me it was more thrilling back then to just see a deer, let alone kill one. Today (for me) it is still exciting to watch the deer and study their habits and reactions to different sights and sounds.
The difference now (to me) is there are many more deer, and I don't have the desire to blast away at the first little buck that wanders along. In fact, you can learn alot from juvenile bucks. Even leading to killing a big buck.

define "fun"
back then,I was excited on stand all the time,,I knew when I saw a buck it was a shooter
now when I see a deer by the time if I decide if I want to fool with killing it or not,I dont really have time to get excited,,I can honestly say I have not gotten that buck fever rush in a long time,,back in those days I kept it.

156, That is a classic picture. Looks like their hunting clothes are military issue. Is that a Bowie knife strapped to the guy on the left? Where was the deer taken?
Good stuff!

Yeah he's got a big bowie on his side, that deer was taken in Middle TN. I think he hunted for many years before he killed a deer or even saw one. He sure was proud of that deer, I had the mount for a long time until it fell apart. My great granddad is on the right looking at the camera.

It's more fun because we see a lot more deer than we used to. Back then deer densities were much lower and sightings less frequent. In addition, "big" bucks were a dream, not a reality. Now they are a reality, which adds to the anticipation.

Great memories for sure. I need to scan in some of my old pics. Im like Eric, sometimes I spend hours just going back and looking thru old hunting and fishing albums. Im sorta getting to relive it all again right now however with my 2 boys. They have that burning desire to simply hunt and kill whatever they see. I love the excitement and would rather watch them kill most any deer than shoot a good buck myself! I will agree however that the hunting is 10x better than when I was a kid, but I think thats why we all love it so much, we had to work so hard to get to where we are now!
