I normally use trophy rocks but i realized you can buy 50lb salt or mineral block & a box of that block topper for the same price as a 12lb TR. anyone ever compare these, is TR rock still better? do they even like block topper?

Put out about half of a 50 lb trace mineral block today (the brown colored one from TSC). Broke it up to make it a carryable weight. Anxious to see how it works.

You will not see anything as good as TR I have experimented with about everything.
TR is on top by quite a bit

Any salt is legal in tn . If you want to help the overall health and quality of your animals. its TR ! If you just want to kill a deer mortons will work. The trace mineral ( blocks/loose) that you buy contain man made minerals . the deer do know the difference. Licking on the rocks they are getting traces of over 50 minerals, the coop/tsc loose poured on the ground may look like its getting a lot of use. the holes are created by the deer trying to get to the salt that has been leeched into the ground every time it rains. getting less and less minerals each time they do. You will have some on here tell you the loose works just as well !Depends on what they are trying to do !Nothing is as beneficial as the TR , allthe toppers are primarily attractants and most not legal to hunt over in Tn.

When salt leeches into the ground and the deer continue to lick the ground, do they get any beneficial minerals from the soil? I guess it depends on the makeup of the soil in a certain area.
Any thoughts from SALTMAN or anyone else? In my area, phosphate used to be mined extensively, but I'm not sure is that mineral is good for deer.
I have observed the deer licking the mud off their mouths on ground leeched salt licks. Sometimes they look like a kid that has been in some chocolate, and they want to get every bit of it in their stomach.

So, I'm putting out TR this week. Too soon? As a general rule (even though deer populations will affect), how long will they last? I have a trace block that has been getting whacked for months.

I put a 20 lb. Tr out about 3 weeks ago, and it's very small now. It has alot of lick marks on it, but it has rained alot here in the last several days. The deer are also attacking the mud and dirt around it also.
I guess the dissolved salt and minerals have to go somewhere.
