Bought block today. Do you all cut it up to make it easier to carry and put out in different locations. Was thinking about cutting into 4 pieces or so. And how in the world do you cut it up. Was thinking about trying to split it with an axe, but thought maybe it would just crumble once the integrity of the block was broken.

You can bust it with an axe,but they are pretty cheap, and I can ride a 4 wheeler to all my licks,I use em whole.
Assuming Im not using TR.

Yeah an axe or big hammer will do the job. I buy the loose trace mineral salt myself, seems to leech into the soil easier/better. The deer will literally dig holes where it seeps into the ground, works great.

Assuming Im not using TR. It wasnt the cost factor, but the weight. Block I bought is 50lbs and I am putting in spot where cant go with 4 wheeler.

I like to use as a combo. I place one whole block in the center of the lick and then pour one loose bag of trace mineral over it. they eat the loose material so fast i cant afford to keep it out constantly over several licks. the block takes time to leach so it serves its purpose not only as a means of stretching out the salt but it lasts thru several rainfalls and lots of constant use. Both does and bucks frequent the lick alot so it works well and the leaching keeps the spot useful for years to come.

Not to be nosey, but what does a 50lb block cost $6.00 at Tractor Supply. Ended up breaking it into smaller chunks with 5 or 6 good whacks with a hatchet.
