I tend to see more deer in the mornings and for longer periods of time. Where I hunt it seems the most deer movement I see is between 8:30 and 10 am. Afternoon hunts its the last 30 min. I prefer the morning hunts the best

That's like asking which child is prettier I like them both I think their is not much difference in either.
Some stands seem like evening is much better ,and for what ever reason, some stands produce year after year in the morning. You just have to know your hunting ground
And if the Rut is in full swing you better stay all day,you never know when you will hear that grunting noise

I prefer mornings in muzzleloader and first rifle. Evenings the rest of the time. So, If I had to choose it would definitely be evenings. December rifle hunts in the evenings are somewhat magical at times at the farm I hunt. Evenings for bow in October are just as special.

I usually see deer longer in the mornings and then right before dark in the afternoon. So I would have to say mornings.

Makes no difference to me long as I'm out there. But guess I'd choose mornings since it's a little easier doing the knife work in the daylight.

Both seem about the same to me as far as seeing numbers and quality of deer.
I MUCH prefer shooting my deer in the morning for processing purposes, though.

I prefer mornings. Deer sightings in the evenings tend to be more intense, but for a much shorter period of time.
Plus, evening kills are significantly more stressful for me due to nighttime tracking. Also, waiting for it to get pitch black before leaving my stand can often be a serious test of my self discipline. I seem to be much more disciplined about early stand arrival as opposed to making myself stick it out at the end of the day.

I myself prefer the morning hunts as well, because its just a surreal moment when the sun breaks the horizon and the woods start to come to life.

I feel more confident in the mornings, but when I do most of my hunting (around the rut), both are good.

I usally prefer mornings.Mainly because most the evening deer I see are in the 1/2 hour or so before it gets dark.If I have to track one I prefer to legally carry a gun. Any time I see the Barometor dropping is the right time for me.

I think it's evenings for me. I don't mind doing knife work in the dark as long as I have a buddy to hold the light. I also prefer to get set up in the afternoon because I can see, and make a little more noise in the afternoon because of wind and birds n such. I like to hear the song dogs on the way back in of an evening too.
But I'm like most of us...it doesn't matter as long as I'm out there!

I have had good hunts both in the AM and PM, but if i had to choose i would take the AM. I see more in the AM for longer periods of time and the PM usually just the last hour or so.

If I had only one choice, it would be AM. Although the best buck I ever killed was at 1:20 in the afternoon. As everyone probably knows, during the peak rut, it could be great at any moment at any time.
Had a trail cam out a few years ago very near my stand. Had to leave about 10:30 that morning, but I wish I hadn't. Looked at the card a few days later....and was I pissed off. 1:00pm a monster was crusing by about 30 yards from my stand on the same day.

I have killed my best bucks within an hour of sundown, but I prefer the mornings because I more time and my options are greater.
But, I never have gotten over the thought most everywhere that I hunt, I am sure deer see me or hear me come in every morning, so it may take quite a few hours for things to quiet back down and normal travel resume.....
In the mornings, I don't see many deer at daylight and most of my deer activity is around 8-10 oclock.
If I had to choose, I would go in about noon and hunt until dark. Unless I have at least 4-5 hours in my stand, I feel like i cheated myself...lol.
Alot of times, I go and stay all day, so I don't have to choose.....
Plus, it's easy to decide when to leave, when it gets too dark to see...lol.

Evening for bow season. Mornings are my favorites for many reasons, not the least of whick is because the day is coming in and long from being over. the evening represents a definite cut off time that always leaves me a little sad. I have hunted 15 to one more mornings than evenings becasue of work schedule but i can tell you i enjoy the day coming to life and during the rut i prefer the morning to mid day for sure.

Mornings probably give you an opportunity at seeing deer for a longer period and 75% of my hunts are morning hunts even though I may be there until afternoon hours. Afternoon hunts are productive without generally seeing as many deer and not until the last 30-45 minutes of the day. Sit until dark because the big boys don't start playing until last shooting light(especially during early archery). All this is a generality and a basis for hunting times but not set in stone. During the rut anything can happen at any time but I love cold, semi still days with the full moon overhead about 1:30 in the afternoon until dark.

Deer are more predictable for evening hunts during early bow for me, but its hot so I prefer mornings.
There is just something about the anticipation of a morning hunt. Watching the world wake up and knowing that it is getting better every second. Easier to track and process in the daytime as well.

I prefer morning hunts, nothing like watching the woods come to life at day break. Every season I say I'm going to wait until around 10 am to go to the woods. I just feel like I have missed something if I'm not there before day break.

I prefer mornings, as you have the whole day ahead of you. It's also much easier to track, gut, and drag in the daylight. And the processor is open during daytime hours.
However, the evenings are ok. Deer coming out, nice sunsets, cooler temps creeping in, and the yotes howling are pretty cool.

I posted this in another thread last year, but it really justifies my choice, which is EVENINGS, and which is without question. I may have slightly more evening trips than morning trips (quick hunt after work, etc.), but I think it is fairly balanced, and certainly would not explain a 3 to 1 evening advantage.
But the bottom line is that I'll hunt whenever I can, and would prefer to kill a deer in the morning, but it just hasn't happened that way.
I keep pretty good stats. Killed my first in 2000.
I have been hunting 10 years and have killed 29 deer in 6 states: 15 bucks, 14 does (I am really proud of the balance between bucks and does).
2 in Virginia 8 in Georgia 6 in Texas 4 in Kentucky 4 in Tennessee 5 in Kansas
13 on public land, 16 on private land and no high fences
5 were bow kills (1 PSE Nova, 4 Mathews FX) 3 were taken with a .243 (Remington Model 700) 8 taken with a .30-06 (Browning A-Bolt) 8 taken with a 12 ga slug (Remington Model 870) 3 taken with a muzzleloader (Savage 10ML-II) 2 taken with a 20 ga slug (T/C Encore Pro Hunter)
7 were taken on morning hunts 1 during the afternoon (1:30 pm) 21 during evening hunts
Ain't America great?
And yes, I am a lunatic about deer hunting.

Seems to me by personal experience as well as keeping up with this site's info during season and through hunting shows that Evenings is the best time.

This season I will be doing more evening hunts. I've killed 4 out of my 5 deer in the morning, but I never went back out that evening lol!

Early season I prefer evenings on a food source, once the pre rut hits and the bucks start cruising mornings along terrain. Then late season I like evenings after sever weather or right before it.
