As stated chickasaw national wildlife refuge is in Lauderdale county and is managed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. It is mostly bottomland. There are many hunting opportunities on the refuge but you need to get the rules and regs from the refuge office itself or the USWFS web site.
Chickasaw is in Hardeman/Chester counties and cooperatively managed area by State Parks, Forestry, and TWRA. It is mostly upland with regular timber management by Forestry division. It used to get a lot of hunting pressure but that is not the case any more.

Why would you ignore Chicksaw. I have killed several deer there. Bottomland, rich soil can produce nice deer. Look at President Island, Anderson Tulley, Moss Island, Erniest Rice they are all 9 point or better. Why, because Alan P the TWRA Biologist realizes the soils of these grounds can produce that quality of deer. By the way Chicksaw is in the Mississippi Flood plain like all the above mentioned WMA'S. Chicksaw has 24000 acres. There is probably a deer or two there.

I started the thread and now I'm getting confused. I think my plan is to head to the office and get some maps and info and set out squirrel hunting and see what kind of sign I see.

Never deer hunted it but spent a few days in the spring on a turkey hunt. Couple of things you need. First is a termacell and 2nd snake boots. never seen so many skeeters in all my life. Plenty of good swamp bottoms and a lot of room to hunt. If I lived closer it would be one of the places I would hunt. Just get a map and do some scouting. If it is anything like Turkey season stay away from the logging roads going into the woods. Since its an easier walk I bet everyone will think the same thing and just because there is a truck already parked there does not mean a crowd will not go in anyway.
