Just curious if anybody has ever seen or heard of any companies that make smaller framed climbing stands. My wife has been using her brother's Summit stand, and it is way too bulky for her to be carrying. It hits her below the knees and in the back of the head at the same time when transporting. If not I'm going to get her a Lone Wolf like mine, but wanted to see if there were companies out there that made scaled down models.

You could look into one of those Game Plan back packs for tree stands. If its just a matter of carrying it around, that would be your cheapest solution. I've never used one, but they appear to provide a bit more separation from your body and would be more stable to carry due to the hip belt.

Bob,
Get her a Summit OpenShot.
Exchange out the foot platform.
If you don't want the "open" top piece (that comes with the OpenShot),
simply sell it on ebay.
The OpenShot foot platform is about 4 inches shorter than the regular Summit platforms. If you keep the OpenShot top piece, the whole deal is considerably lighter and easier to backpack.

Hey Bob you could be in luck. Looks like your in Knoxville and I may have an old Lone wolf (2-3 years old) you can have. May be a strap missing but could easily be fixed. I will look for it. Send me PM and we can take it from there.

Regarding the Summit stands . . . . . . .
I was also looking at that new fold flat one they have.
The "folding flat" SOUNDED like a good idea, since the Summits don't backpack as flat as some makes. But the flat-folding Summits weigh more.
My take is having the extra weight negates the value added by being a little flatter. Not to mention, there is potentially more to start squeaking with the "flat-folding" Summits.
The Lone Wolf climber is the ultimate in a lightweight, flat-folding climber. But IMO they're not as comfortable as a Summit, and they cost considerably more.

The original style of ol man stands in aluminum will fit the bill. My 12 yr old can carry and handle his quite well. It wont work well for a bow stand however, as it has the rail that goes around you on the seat portion. If your serious about bow hunting you already know that anything around you to get in the way is a NO NO when bow hunting from a stand!

The aluminum two piece models that Dicks sells are 21#s combined and they are for samller framed folks. I modify several things on them and like them just as good as my summitt.

Exactly, and to my knowledge they have not not had near the problems with the lack of quality in the materials and craftsmanship that Summit has had either.

agreed. I've had mine for three years. I love it. I have made my own modifications, but it is all in all the most efficiant stand for me.
