Interesting stuff and just something to talk about. These figures come from State Farm. Is their estimated roadkill across the country.

Enjoy!

BGG- I can't read it, either but I did an artcle a year ago after interviewing several insurance agents and body shop owners here in Wilson county. I believe they showed something like a 48% increase over the previous five years.

If they had projected data for that time period (July 2002-June 2010), then surely they have actual data now.

Looking at the difference between the two would interesting-

Comparing that with your population data would help model the mortality you can't control.

Of course, by your post, you've already thought those things though.

BGG,
I have LONG used road kills to estimate PEAK rutting activity in the Counties/States I frequent during the rut.

I MOSTLY use I-24 E/W to watch the rut "roll" this way from up North.

One can almost follow the rut based on sightings and reports from travelers.

It has without a doubt been the most accurate tool I've used to know when to get in a tree!!!

Wow, Michigan and Pennsylvania are way up there in estimated road kills.
