I used to hunt there years ago.

There are some ( were ) decent bucks in the area,
but too many snakes early season for me.

I hunted it one time many years ago and saw several deer. I got drawed for it this year and plan on scouting it before I go.

im thinking this is one of those hunts that typically has left over tags. if this is the case that should tell you something about it.

There were 122 deer killed there last year. If I counted correctly they were #13 in kills on a WMA. That is more than Hiwassee Refuge (90) and Yuchi (121).

I hunted the early archery hunt in 2008. I was new to TN and I didn't know any better. Hundreds of hunters and nothing checked in when I left right before lunch on the first day. May be better later in the season with fewer hunters, but I couldn't be paid to go on that early hunt again.

Stop in at the first check station and ask the wildlife officer to show you the photo album he has from last seaon and then make a decision. I can assure you there are some fantastic deer in there. I haven't hunted there since high school but I did turkey hunt it this spring and when I checked in my bird, I was really impressed at the quality of bucks taken off of there. I have plans to get out there and learn it a little bit if I can get the time off of work.

Ghost, you know that you gotta have a set of them moutain legs to hunt that place. Plenty of great bucks up there. My buddy's father killed a 150+ 8 point 2 seasons ago. Biggest 8 I have ever seen. GW's called it an 11point.

rough but rewarding!

I plan on going to scout in the next couple of weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start and what are the restrictions on ATV use?
