I use a climbing stand and see no problem with ladder or chain on stands being left over night on WMAs or public land. What people need to remember is that the land is open to everyone to hunt. If another hunter comes in a sets up in the dark and ends up next to you that is a chance you take. They very well may not see your stand when they set up. It is good manners and being safe not to set up where some other hunter has set a chain on or ladder stand. But even in the day light a unmanned stand maynot been noticed and another hunter may set up in a "claimed area."

Ditto Redcorn, I usually have 2 stands hidden out just in case.

If I recall a few years ago TWRA use to have a rule that if you left a stand on a WMA that it was kind of considered public and then the first person that got to the stand could hunt it. I'm sure that caused a lot of problems. I have nothing against ladder stands on a WMA. However don't be surprised if someone is already up a tree near you so you better have option B or C ready. Some guys let others do the scouting for them and just wait to find the ribbons, cats eyes trails or stands to find the "perfect spot"

What is the deal with leaving your treestand in overnight? I called our regional office and had to call the area manager. It has to be cleared through them to leave the stand in overnight, and they said if someone was in your stand there is nothing you can do about it. So I guess if you hunt the WMA's you need to carry in your stand every morning. Are they trying to discourage people from hunting? Correct me if I am wrong, but that is the way it seems to me. What is the purpose of scouting?
man, i hunt public land 90 percent of the time. cheatam game reserve mostly. the rule book says the stand has to be portable and not permanate. and just about all ladder stand are consider portable. as lond as you can take it down and move it around. and mr randy cromer told use we could leave it up and it was fine. of course he said he wasnt responsible for anyone stealing it. and as far as some one in it when you get to the stand. if you put your mane on it, where you can prove its yous; then they have to get out of it. its still your property and no one can leagally still it. if your mane is not on it, then you cant prove its yours. therefore they dont have to get out. i have a stamp plate that puts my name in all my stands. it cant be painted over.
