I just got a Remington model 700 ADL .270. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what bullet to shoot out of it. I have always Hornady SST, but that was out of a 300 mag. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I shoot that gun for years and the best round I found for that gun was a Remington Core-Lokt 130 gr. I have killed everything from elk to deer with that old gun. That round grouped better than any other brand.

the core lokt would probably be a good bullet. I have always used 150 gr Winchester power points with good results. Both those bullets are good for the price. I have also heard good things about the Fusion bullets.

Fusions are good but found them to be finicky. I shoot rem 130 corelok with great results.

Do not shoot balistic tips, as they explode causing poor penetration and a lot of lost meat! When no bone is hit, performance is a sight to behold (bang flop), but a shoulder or rib can cause varmint type explosion/fragmenting if hit at close range.

I have shot a Remington 700 bdl in a 270 for years, and shot alot of deer with it. Taken Whitetail as close as 15 yards, and Mule deer as far as 300 yards. I have always used the Remington core loc bullet in 130 grain. Have never had any problems, or lost deer.Very accurate bullet.

I've used Nosler BT 130s with success; very accurate. "Explosion" type results were only seen when shooting at ranges closer than 50 yards. I've had very good accuracy with Sierra Game Kings, but I haven't shot any deer with that bullet.
I bought a box of Hornady SST that I will try this coming fall, based on the excellent results I've gotten with Hornady INterlock in my 260. (My 270 preferrs boat-tail plastic-tipped bullets, and the Hornady SSTs generally have better reviews than the Nosler BT in terms of sticking together on high-velocity bone contact.)

Camoman270- I used those same bullets in a .243 and killed my first buck with it. I may use them. They are some many choices out there. I dont know where to begin.

Jakeway- I loved those hornady SST for my 300 mag. They could really do some damage, but with a 300 mag it dont take much to blow a hole. I didn't know how those SST would do out of a .270.

I suggest you try a couple of boxes of different type bullets or the same from different ammo brands. Federal and Win as well as others overlap each other in some bullet types such as the Nosler Ballistic Tip and Accubond and pick the one that is most accurate in your rifle.
I am fond of the 140gr bullets in the 270's esp the Nosler Accubond and Partition.

I have shot the 270 for years.... I prefere the Winchester ballistic supremes...... but they sell for anywhere from upper 30's to 44 bucks at Dicks sporting goods...... I have had many deer just drop dead in their tracks from that expolsive destructive tip....but any bullet will kill a deer in a 270....i have used most of them but this one is my favorite.
That's the round I use in my 7MM , works for me !!

Almost any factory load out of a .270 will kill deer. What is important to you?
Cost? Performance?
Deer aren't that hard to kill with a vitals shot.
Use a well constructed bullet that will expand at the ranges you will shoot without blowing up.
Ballistic tips will cause a lot of meat damage under 50 yds.
I don't think its necessary to $$$ for premium bullets if you are only hunting deer.
Coreloks, hornady BTSP, or similar bullets offer a good balance of expansion, toughness, and cost and come in a variety of factory loadings.
Finally, and possibly most important.... Shoot what your gun groups well.

Federal 130gr Soft Point. Shoot sub MOA at 100 yards. A whole lot cheaper than anything mentioned. I've shot deer, wild boar and black bear with this round and have never had any animal go more than 75 yards and drop dead.
