I bought to 2 hang on stands to use this year and I have both hung..I've never used a hang on before so excuse my ignorance..But what is the difference between a hang on and a chain on?Am I supposed to be useing a chain on these stands? Or do I just depend on the rachet straps tension alone to hold the stand up there?? Because I just put 2 rachet straps on the hang on stands I put up, I used 1 cheap one that came with the stand and then I used a more heavier duty strap used for straping down cars..LOL I want to make sure they ain't gong anywhere,I do this for all my stands,I don't use the el cheapo rachet straps that come with stands...But am I supposed to be putting a chain around these stands for added support? Just curious..

Some stands come with a chain instead of a strap, I have both and feel a whole lot better in the one with the chain.

I love hang-on stands......I really feel safe in them as long as I remember to check the straps periodically and change them oyt every couple of years.....

I always put the stand on with the attached strap and then put two more rachet straps on it......

The only incident I ever had was when I tried to use an older stand and simply assumed that the straps were okay, they were not. I will never use another stand with straps more than two seasons old, never again.

NOTE.......simply get in the habit of changing out the straps every two years. never assume they are okay, even if you take them down and store them every off season.....

dry rot can KILL you....

be safe

I prefer the straps. Less weight and potential noise.

I bought some big game univeral shooting rails to put up with the 2 hang on stands, just for a little added security, they are really stady, and plus I can buy some camo burlap from walmart for $10 and make a blind with it and some zip ties..But I think i'll add a chain and lock for added security..

I use both types, strap and chain, but prefer chain. I love loc on type stands. Hate ladder stands. I buy the cheapest locons I can find and put them up anywhere I think I might hunt. If they get stolen, I am not out much. I put them super high and space the steps real far apart, don't have a lot of thiefs wanting to climb 35 ft for a 35 dollar stand.

I ratchet my loc on's down with straps, and use the chain as a safety backup.
