All my bow kills are around 30 yards, my favorite range. Even my elk in MT was only 14 yards...talk about nervous.

I mugh prefer inside 20 yards but hunting out west or hunting barren ground caribou is a different story. Shots at over 40 and up to 60 are common. So you practice for that and take only the good shots.

Thats the whole idea, Im much more proud of the good bucks I've shot inside 20 yards that never knew I was there, than any long shots i've ever taken! Bow hunting is all about up close and personal. It will test your skills when you have to pinpoint exactly where they will be, not within a 100 yards any direction.
Thats what makes it so much fun, the challenge!!! Separates the Men from the Boys so to speak! LOL

I havent killed a deer with a bow yet but this is what i want to accomlish a good shot at 20 yard without the deer even thinking something was wrong until it was to late.

My farthest shot on a deer is 25 yards. Last years buck was shot at 15 yards. I like to set up close. I got tired of the deer ducking the string on those old slow bows so I just got used to getting up close and personal with them. Now that the bows are fast AND quiet I could probably back off a little bit.

57 yards on a 7 point off Park Road in Anderson County. I missed him clean at 35 or so and he allowed me that error-

That was 20 years ago. Back then, I had no max as my brother and I practiced at 100 every day and were fairly decent shots around here.

My max now is 35-40. A little knowledge and some age has caught up with me...
