take a wore out chainsaw file or any kind of file for that matter, clean it up real good (no grease or oil left ) with a wire brush and then fill a bottle with regular white (cooking ) vineagar ,drop the file or files into it and let it soak for about 48 hours and presto ,a new file.
I thought it was crazy too and I but it works and some files come out better than new.

Never heard of that, but when you get a new file from the store, rub some chalk/soapstone down into the grooves and it will keep it from loading up and will cut a lot longer.

The acid content in the vinegar actually cleans out the debris in the file cuts, it doesn't actually sharpen the file.

Not true...the acid does help in cleaning the debris emdedded in the grooves of the file but thats what a file card is used for.
What really happens is what is called metal etching in that the acid etches the blunted edge of the file. Same can be said about fish hooks.
Critric acid, sulfuric acid are some tht will work.
A quick look under a microscope makes you believe. \:\)

Best tip i have read, will try it soon!
I am always having problems with double sided bastard files getting some rust or buildup on them.
