My first buck. I took that 4 point while chasing 4 doe around during the rut. I was hunting with my bow on the ground and I was 16 yrs old. It was simply amazing. Since then I have killed many deer and lots of really big deer but they can not compare to this guy.

a 50lbs doe shot in 10 degree weather last year.IT was number 109 for me and was special because I worked hard for it.Other guys in camp didn't see a deer.smallest deer of the year for me.

Can't wait till this season to see what deer replaces it.

my first big deer, 9 pt. came in running does early in the morning but took a cutoff to the broad river in elbert county georgia. i didnt really understand why the many deer were running cause they came in the way i did off the top of the ridge and almost followed my path down running in. It was thanksgiving morning of the 1990 season and i hadnt even gotten to hunt because of the work situation i was in and on that morning i was desperate to be in the woods. Little did i know that that 9 pt was with a 4 pt and 3 does they were chasing. about an hour or less after i heard them head down to the river i was pondering why?.....what spooked them.....then they came back my way and i was sitting on a home made baker style deer stand with only a bottom to sit on and i barely had time to get off my butt and get up and see the bigger buck with the rest and get on him running and just before he was to go into a ravine and out of sight i pulled the trigger and then he dissappeared...the other buck at the sign of the gun cut back the way the doe ran and came from my left to right and ran behind the tree i was in and i quickly jacked the bolt of the model 70 open and loaded another 270 shell into the chamber and took a standing shot, he ran 20 yards straight away from me and stopped and i shot again, he ran immediately back toward the river as hard as he could and i heard him crash. i got down and immediately went to where the big one had been when i pulled the trigger and found him dead in his tracks and then tracked toward the 4 pt and found him with two bullet holes in him about 80 yds from the first!!!
man what a day. i thought my season was over before it started and then in one morning i killed two! i was ecstatic!!!
That is one of my fondest memories of all time in the woods!

Don't really consider them trophies at all, just some bigger than others. To me the size doesn't really matter, it's not going to get mounted, don't have that much extra $$$ to spend. It's just about having the opp to go out and hunt and kill a deer, be it a doe, spike, whatever. I get the same thrill from shooting a little one than I do a big one. I have two deer mounted, first one from '88 and don't have a clue where it is (still got a pic though) and one from a few years ago and would just rather spend that money on something else.

For me what defines a trophy is how well the preparations and the hunt itself come together.

How well did my plan work out?
Did I stick to my plan?
If I had to deviate from my plan how well did I adapt to the changes (perhaps direction in wind changed)?
Did I use good self disceplin?
Did I make many mistakes?

I place more importance in that than I do the animal itself unless I'm hunting a particular buck, but most of the time I'm not.

All of the above is why I consider that little 4 ptr. my "best" trophy. Simply because he represented the result of my plan that I was able to deviate from as needed and adapt to, in order to get results. ;\)
