Last year the gimmick of the year award went to the "Acorn Cruncher".

I think this one is going to bump the cruncher to the number two position:

It is called "The Stand Scouter". It only cost $19.95.

The Stand Scouter is a measuring device (AKA a stick) that you use to mathematically determine which trees will give you the best vantage ponts and to what heights you can climb or hang your treestand before you ever leave the ground.

Wow. I couldn't make it through their "How to Use" read. Suppose I'll stik to climbing the tree first to see how it looks and where I need to prune.

Sounds like a biltmore stick. foresters have been using them for years. I guess there are anough suckers out there to make it worth their time to advertise it.

I think a lot of the tree stand safety rigs are a joke. You're paying $60 for packaging that contains a length of static rope, a prussic knot and a locking carabiner. Go to any outdoor store that has climbing gear and get the same rig for 1/3rd of the cost.

That's exactly what it is.

While in the Scouts, I recall learning how to determine how tall a tree was by using a comb. Dont ask me how to do it now.

The one I've noticed this year is "The bow handle". "Are you still carrying your bow by the string? Seriously? Seriously?" Good grief, I carry my bow by the string or the HANDLE. I don't need another handle added on to carry it with for sure! \:\/

Hard to beat the Cruncher but I thought it was hard to beat the electronic call that walmart sold a few years back that sounded like a deer feeder going off.

Say, did anyone ever use the "butt-puller" tool that everyone made fun of a couple of years ago?

WORST gimmick I ever saw was a scent marketed for helping you kill turkey. It was a cover spray designed to attract and not spook TURKEY. Tinks' marketed it.
