So I spent the extra money to upgrade my cable subscription to have DVR and the sports package. No more skimping out of the treestand early on Sunday mornings to catch the noon game (if you are a Titans fan, you'll notice their almost all noon games this season). I'll be recording all of the Sunday games and catching up into the early hours of the morning on Monday.

I put this in the Serious Hunting talk forum simply b/c my only motivation for upgrading my cable was to accomodate hunting season.

Hunting comes first, but I sure do love the NFL.

Thought about that, but just doesn't feel right. If I'm not focused on being there, I should be at home on the couch.

On weekday hunts, I often keep my Instant Messaging on after 9:30 or 10:00 so my co workers can reach me as usual. I can deal with email if it can't wait until later, or, on occasion I'll have to end my end early if something pressing comes up. That's fine -it's work related after all. But, watching football in the treestand is entertainment.

Mutli-channel DVR is the greatest thing going. We can record four different channels at once. I don't know how we lived without it! ;\)

But I'll be out of the stand and back at camp by a noon game time! I don't miss the Titans!

I know a lot of people complain about technology ruining attention spans, etc, but technology allows me to hunt 10X as much as I could have 10-15 years ago.

I keep a laptop in my truck (locked in a safe) that is set up for mobile broadband. Between that and being available on IM through my phone when I feel I need to be, I can handle anything from my truck i.e. "hunting office" that I can from my actual office. That being said, I do make some distinctions on types of hunting days.

1. There is the "its a really busy weekday, but I'm going hunting anyway so better be prepared to deal with work if I need to" day. On these types of days, I'm not going to make a kill unless its something special as I may not be able to afford the recovery time.

2. There's the "I'm going hunting and there's nothing anybody can do about it" day. Usually when I don't anticipate being busy with work. On these days, I don't think about work much and keep my phone off. This is the typical weekend mind set and some Fridays. Maybe check my email 1st thing when I get back to my truck, just to be sure.

3. The "I'm out" day. This is rut hunting or straight taking the day off to go hunting. The apocalypse can happen, and I'm ok with it. I'll make up for it when I come back to work with a clear head and motivated to get work done so I can go hunting again.

Teaching Sunday school this fall, so as usual Sunday a.m.'s are a no go. Now Sunday afternoons are different. Plus my oldest (5 yr old) loves Sunday school.

Best thing about football season to me is that the less serious hunters aren't in the woods when UT has a homegame.
Amazing how the woods can empty out sometimes because of a football game.

Yea, you're so "eat up with it" you'd even buy a truck for no other reason than it was named a "Titan". \:D

Call me crazy but the only football that I truely care about is played on Friday nights so there is no conflict with hunting there!
