My only qualifications is that its not a yearling,manly to avoid BBs,other than that,a doe is a doe to me,what about you?

I mainly just avoid taking female deer I believe to be fawns, but don't care if it's a yearling doe.
I lean more towards shooting 2 1/2 and older doe simply to avoid accidentally taking out a button buck fawn (or a spike/small-antlered yearling buck). It's often very easy to know an older doe is in fact NOT a button buck fawn.
But nothing like seeing that long serpentine neck on an "antlerless" deer and thinking immediately "SHOOTHER"!

I was told,many years ago,the easiest way to avoid shooting bbs,is to let several "does" gather,shoot the biggest,rarely will that be a bb
That may have been true back when doe harvests were very limited and we had large groups of antlerless deer.
But today, a group of several "does" is often a group of button bucks, and you simply will take out the largest button with that approach. And in the case of twin fawns, one of each sex, the button is nearly always so much larger (late season) that he will appear to be the mother of the the other. I've also seen late-season button bucks stand taller at the shoulders than their momma doe beside them.
One good rule of thumb is to not shoot the first antlerless deer that steps out into a more open area or field. That will very commonly be a button buck. Unless I can clearly see that such a deer is at least a 2 1/2-yr-old doe, I just don't shoot lone antlerless deer. Too easy to not see those buttons.
